From Syria (and the Levant) all the Way to Brazil / Argentia

“Esfiha” is a very popular dish in Syria, Lebanon and in almost every country in the Middle East. “Esfiha” was brought by Arab immigrants Brazil in the late 19th century, and it has become an integral part of Brazilian cuisine.

Sfiha has become popular in Brazil and Argentina, where it is known as esfiha or esfirra in Brazil or as sfija in Argentina, after being introduced by immigrants from Syria, Armenia and Lebanon.

According to Nawal Nasrallah, an Iraqi scholar and researcher, the earliest mention of lahm bi ajeen (Sfiha) was in a 13th century Syrian cookbook.
